Tonight the Luigi Ferraris stadium in Genoa will welcome representatives of Genoa and Sampdoria teams from the 1990-91 season.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to AriSLA (the Italian agency for research into amyotrophic lateral sclerosis)

Genoa, 27th May, 2013 – Gamenet SpA strengthens its bond with sport and with the city of Genoa, by supporting scientific research into amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The licensee is in fact Official Sponsor of the “SLAncio di Vita” Derby which, with the support of the non-profit organisation Vialli and Mauro Foundation for Research and Sport, will see the return of representatives from the Genoa and Sampdoria teams from the 1990-91 season.  The game will be played at the Luigi Ferraris stadium in Genoa, and kick-off is tonight, 27th May at 20.45.

During the match, Osvaldo Bagnoli, coach of the rossoblu (‘red and blues’, the Genoa team) and his blucerchiato (‘blue-circled’, Sampdoria) counterpart Vujadin Boskov, will sit on the bench to talk tactics with these players, with whom they have celebrated significant results: fourth place in the Championship and UEFA Cup qualification for the Griffin (Genoa), and the historical League title and Cup winners’ Cup quarter-finals for “Il Doria” (Sampdoria).

Genoa’s forward, “Pato” Aguilera, will yet again play alongside Tomas Skuhravy, his former colleague, as well as Marco Pacione. In defense, stopper Fulvio Collovati will be joined by Nicola Caricola, Massimiliano Corrado, Armando Ferroni and Vincenzo Torrente.  In midfield, the captain Stefano Eranio will play alongside Mario Bortolazzi, Valeriano Fiorin, Roberto Onorati, Gennaro Ruotolo and Elio Signorelli.  Keepers Simone Braglia and Ottorino Piotti will do their best to keep goals out.

For Sampdoria, the ‘goal twins’ Gianluca Vialli and Roberto Mancini goal will be fed by midfielders Attilio Lombardo, Ivano Bonetti, Umberto Calcagno, Giovanni Invernizzi, Srecko Katanec, Oleksij Mychajlycenko and Fausto Pari. The defenders staving off Genoa’s attacks will be Giovanni Dall’Igna, Marco Lanna, Moreno Mannini, Michele Mignani and “the Tsar” Pietro Vierchowod, headed by Luca Pellegrini. The "number 1s" in goal will be Gianluca Pagliuca and Giulio Nuciari.

The proceeds from the event will be passed to the AriSLA Foundation to help fund high-level scientific research into the neurodegenerative disease ALS. Currently there is little information relating to the causes of and cure for the disease, which affects over 5,000 people in Italy alone. In particular, the funds raised will go to a research project focussed on finding an earlier diagnosis of the disease, and which aims to identify new biomarkers in ALS. The project, selected in the AriSLA 2012 contest, is led by Paolo Edomi of the Life Sciences Department at the University of Trieste.

The SLAncio di Vita Derby event, featuring legends of the Genoa and Sampdoria teams from the 1990-91 season, aims to further contribute to the research effort, to discover the causes and mechanisms that trigger the disease, and to move ever closer to a future without ALS!
